People Are Buying Macs in Droves
Apple’s quarterly results are in, and the company far exceeded expectations, hauling in 88% more revenue this quarter than the same quarter last year. Apple’s valuation now exceeds that of Dell by about $25 billion. It’s not all iPod sales, either.
Apple sold 1.5 million Macs during the quarter, and Macintosh is gaining market share at 3x the industry rate. Macintosh sales increased 36%. No wonder I’ve been seeing more Macs on campus.
It looks like the combination of the iPod “halo effect”, underwhelming response to Vista, and the advent of dual-boot capable Intel Macs has created a strong demand for the Macintosh. I wouldn’t be surprised if even more Macs show up on campus next fall.

Let’s hope that Apple doesn’t use these results and start slacking with their products. I still can’t wait till June, since I still can’t decide whether to go for a larger 15″ MBP or the smaller 13″ that many predict will be introduced.

Jorge,
I agree. Let’s hope Apple doesn’t slack off on quality. So far the signs are good. They’ve made the transition to Intel almost flawlessly, OS X continues to improve, and I expect big things from the next rev of iWork. That said, it can be tough to keep quality high when you’ve got too many balls in the air.
Just ask Microsoft.

I just found your website today while at work. I’m heading to law school in the market for a new laptop and have been a life long Microsoft user. After all the research and reading I’ve done, I’m switching. I just wanted to let you know that your site is exactly what I’ve been looking for. The information you post and the reviews of software are just what I needed - not knowing anything about law school yet and switching to a new platform - it’s great to have adive from folks who have already been there!

Erika,
Thanks for the comment. I’m glad you find the site useful. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, either directly via email, or in comments.
I’m always looking for people who are interested in writing for MLS. Maybe I’ll be able to con you into writing about some of your experiences as a switcher, eh?
