The new Mac Pro looks absurdly powerful, and it may be the machine designers, video professionals, architects and the like have been wanting. But it says something about the dominance of the laptop market that this serious update to the Mac Pro has been relegated to announcement before the MacWorld expo.

Of course this was also a clever move by Apple to generate buzz. After all, if Apple is showing off the new Mac Pro now, they must be launching something big at MacWorld. Perhaps it will be the long-rumored subnotebook. Perhaps it will be a tablet. Maybe it will be a product that encompasses the best of both. We’ll find out next week.
