For some Mac users, this may be a huge hit…not being able to run an Intel-native office suite on their new Mac. However, there is a donationware alternative. Check out NeoOffice (neooffice.org), it is an office suite written in Universal Binary code (runs natively on PPC and Intel) and looks and feels like MS Office for Mac, just not so bloated. It opens .doc, .xls, and other Office formats and has the ability to save in those same formats for sharing purposes. This is what I plan to use for anything more than just basic text editing once classes begin.
John, I’m looking forward to reading about your experiences with NeoOffice. At this point I think many of us are looking for a viable alternative to Microsoft Office.
