MacBook and MacBook Pro Software Bundling
This has probably been going on for some time, but I just noticed that Apple has scaled back the third-party software included with MacBooks and MBPs. Both the MacBook and MBP include full versions of iLife (iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iWeb, iDVD), the software bundle that makes every Mac user a Master of Media. This is a good thing, even if you only use iPhoto.
The MacBook and MBP both include FrontRow and Photo Booth. But neither of these apps can be purchased separately anyway, so one could be forgiven for thinking of them as hardware-specific OS add-ons. They also include 30-day trial versions of iWork and MS Office 2004, neither of which is likely to cause excitement. The MacBook Pro also includes a trial version of Aperture, Apple’s pro-grade photo management software.
That’s it. No OmniOutliner. No OmniGraffle. No iGTD, Journler, Mori, Yojimbo, or other splendid third-party apps either. Bummer.
