Assignment Planner: Another Way to Manage Class Work
Back in September, Ronald Heft, Jr. put an informative review of Assignment Planner up on his blog. If you’ve tried using my OmniOutliner approach or some other system and aren’t yet satisfied, Assignment Planner may be for you. I haven’t had a chance to try Assignment Planner, but judging by Ronald’s review, a lot of time and effort went into making this application. Based on a quick view of the support forum on his site, it appears to be well-supported by Logan Rockmore, the UC Davis undergrad who created the app. For maximum functionality, registration ($5) is required.

Call me old fashioned, but I just use TextEdit for my assignment tracking. Reading assignments come and go so quickly that having any kind of formal system for it would, for me at least, take more time than it’s worth.
Now, for longer-term project managing it could be a different story.

Your approach makes as much sense as any. I’ve noticed that some people are more comfortable with ad-hoc assignment planning, and others like to know as far ahead of time as possible what reading they have to do and when.
This semester I’m taking a less assignment-centric approach to my studies, focusing instead on spending certain chunks of time throughout the week studying certain subjects. This way I (hopefully) won’t fall into the trap of spending less prep time on classes that have a deceptively small amount of reading.
